What is chiropractic health care? Chiropractic health care is a form of natural healing - drug and surgery free - that dates back as far as 2700 B.C. The treatment is based on the premise that all parts of the body need a properly functioning nerve supply in order to remain healthy. The word "chiropractic" is derived from the Greek words "cheir" and "praktkos" which mean "done by hand." Chiropractic treatments do not include surgery or medications, which means you will be offered alternatives that are non-invasive, hands-on and effective. Chiropractic is used to treat the "subluxation complex," which happens when one or more vertebrae have lost their normal position and are interfering, or pinching, the nerves they were meant to protect. This interference can cause pressure or irritation on the nerve roots as they pass out of the spinal column. Chiropractic care can treat acute or chronic conditions. Some of the symptoms caused by the subluxation complex include: pain, numbness, tingling, tension, stiffness, muscle spasm and weakness. These symptoms may appear in the head, neck, shoulders, arms, middle back, lower back, hips, legs and feet. |
